This album is dedicated to all of the hard working circuit bands and unsung heroes that keep the rock and roll tradition alive. Many songs throughout the decades following the fifties owe much of their inspiration to the roots of rock and roll. With this in mind The Top Cats have put together a mix of tracks combining many of the classic hits of the golden age with other modern numbers that possess the founding rock and roll spirit.
The Top Cats line up of Graham ‘Curly’ Bateman, Steve Clark and Jez Jordan have been together since early 2002 with Curly and Steve originating from the band ‘The High Flyers’ and Jez coming from ‘Aces Wild’. All of the Cats have a long history of playing in different bands with rock and roll at the core. Each member of the band has had the privilege of sharing the larger stage with legends like the original Comets (of Bill Haley fame) Bobby Cochran (Eddie’s nephew), Tony Sheridan, Wee Willy Harris, The Jets etc. which is always a tremendous buzz. The formation of the Top Cats is a familiar story of a group of like-minded lads getting together to play music they all relate too. Strong influences that filter into the Top Cats sound are from classic heroes ranging from such diverse allstars as Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette to Elvis and Warren Smith, modern guitar aces like Darrel Higham, Mark Harman and inspirational bands like The Stray Cats. You may detect some of these influences among the tracks laid down on this CD.
The real fun part for any band is playing music live, so we have kept to that spirit with a one take approach when recording the album. There are always bits in songs you could go back rework and polish, this is great if you want a highly produced (some say overproduced) track, but, we think this can also lead to a fairly sterile sound. So what you get with Full Throttle is what you will hear live – warts and all!
Keep on rockin’
